THE REVOLUTIONARY ENGINEERING PROGRAM

Information Technology is playing a valuable role across industries today,
but the truth about technology is that it keeps changing, day after day –
minute after minute. More so, in meeting the needs of industries that rely on IT.
What is important is that organizations will constantly seek IT Professionals with
sound foundations and who are productive from day one. Keeping this in mind,
NIIT’s new graduate engineer program is designed and developed as a result of
extensive research done at software factories, universities and organizations
employing IT resources across the globe. Thereby making the program highly valuable
and the student the most sought after.
The Engineering Program features a credit based framework thereby providing an academic
rigor common with and validated by International Universities. The contents of the program
are industry relevant, and provide for different specialization streams with a core

The methodology work for everyone – right from beginners in IT,
to advanced learners to those wanting to upgrade their IT skills –
it is primarily designed for school leavers seeking a career in IT.
The uniqueness of the methodology lies in the understanding that each person is
unique and learns in his/her own way. The methodology is delivered through the
following 4 components :
- Constructs: This component introduces the learner to new concepts thereby constructing his/her knowledge base. The instructor brings in concrete experiences for the learner through explanations and demonstrations. These sessions provide the foundation for the student to be able to move to the next stages of learning.
- COLLABORATE: This component make it possible for the learner to have contextual familiarity of the subject through collaborative learning. The student is provided a rich choice of tools like case studies, scenario/ problem statements and best practices to reflect on the concepts learnt in the previous sessions and apply his/her understanding in the larger context.
- Experiment: Here the learner is exposed to active experimentation. The learner experiments with his/her understanding of the concepts and his/her observations to form a logical leading to better learning effectiveness and experience.
- APPLY: This learning component provides an environment for learners to develop conceptual clarity. Students learn, refer, compare, think and apply their knowledge spectrum and create solutions for real life case studies. Tools used to provide such learning are Project Building (PB), Information Search and Analysis Skills (ISAS) and Reference Reading (RR).

Program titles are certificates that will be awarded to the student at the end of the respective program. The title will also contain the specialization completed by the student.

The certification will be governed per norms laid down in the Academic policy of these programs.

Quarter Based Model – Quarter Structure
|
|
As shown in the figure, the smallest academic unit in this new curriculum will be
a quarter that may contain one or more modules depending on the content to be covered
in that quarter. The duration of each quarter is 13 weeks including evaluation.
Each week will comprise 20 hours of learning (Contact % Notional).
The learning components of the quarter are :
- Construct in online classroom
- Collaborate in an adequate environment
- Experiment in labs sessions
- Apply - Information Search and Analysis Skills (ISAS), Project and reference Reading (PR) in an adequate environment
This lead to 20 hrs of learning per week.

CREDIT MODEL AND VALUATIONS

The Graduate Engineering Program follows the Quarter Credit based model.
7 Quarter Credit (QC) Per quarter leading to:
- DNIIT with 56 QC
- DNIIT with 84 QC
This system enables recognition of earlier qualification and hence the student can continue
from the point he/she left off. The credit accumulated by the student at the end of the
program will also determine the certificate/diploma title that student is eligible for.

The Course Content
|
|
LACC Engineering Program includes the foundation program,
leading to specializations in the chosen fields of either
Software or Network Engineering. While the foundation course
introduces students to the essentials of computing needed
in everyday life, the specializations streams build on
this solid foundation to train a professional ready to apply
his/her learning on the job from day one.
NIIT’s programs have gained acceptance at leading International Universities.
Students with an NIIT qualification can get admission into partnering universities
to acquire a Bachelor’s or even Master’s degree from that particular
university. These alliances are a formal arrangement between NIIT and universities
to offer degree to students. NIIT students are therefore equipped with two globally
accepted qualifications on completion of the program. The NIIT Academy administers
the alliances by acting as a mediator between the NIIT Academic Architecture and
those of the partnering university.

Eligibility Criteria :
Students completing a 2 year career education program in a normal track (in minimum of 2 years calendar duration) are granted block credits by partnering universities of the alliance. As a result, all NIIT students on completion of NIIT Award (of 2-year > 2-year duration) get access to degree of the partnering university. Plus, they get a headset towards a degree by virtue of durational exemption they get for their study at NIIT. All prospective students of NIIT will be covered under the alliance as soon as they complete first four NIIT semesters. And, NIIT alumni who have least four semesters of career education at NIIT, irrespective of time and place, are automatically included and can immediately proceed to fill up the application from on the website of The NIIT Academy (www.niitacademy.net).
